WHAT IS IT - HOW IT WORKS - HOW IT'S MADE

WHAT IS IT?

HOW IT WORKS:

The camera will load into the case only one way, with the viewfinder window entering first. As you lower the camera, there is a hole on the bottom of the case for the bottom lug to rest inside. The lug will not protrude beyond the surface of the case as the leather is thicker than the length of the lug. A triangular shape is cut out so the frameline selector lever is never touched. Pull the safety strap across and attach the button to it's post (read about this very strong button below). That's it! Your camera is safely in it's streamlined holster and not going anywhere.  

AND EXIT:
To remove your camera, a wrist lanyard is suggested to help remove your camera from it's case. Simply release the safety fastener on the case, push the cases' safety strap out of the way, put your hand through the wrist lanyard, grip your camera and gently pull upwards. With a little practice, this can all be done in seconds. Once the camera is in your hand, we suggest you fit the lanyard between your index and middle finger. Our wrist lanyards have a woven laced leather area to add friction to the wrist for a better tensioned grip.

Case Design:
All panels surrounding the camera are bent inwards instead of meeting square for two very good reasons. Firstly, this design, combined with our pigskin suede lining, grips your camera inside. It will be a slightly tight fit when you first receive your case but in time, the leather moulds (like a glove) and loosens just enough where you put pressure on it removing and replacing your camera. Secondly, this design means that any side impact is taken by the protruding seam, which will dent (like a bumper on a car), not a flat bang with your camera taking the full jolt. 

SAFETY STRAP AND BUTTON:
On the case, a safety strap is used across the camera with an incredibly strong button fastener designed specifically for use with Porsche motorcars that we have adapted to our use. Our lens cases have one as well. Soon you will know just by the very faint "click" sound, that the case has closed properly. We chose this very elegant item because the button requires very minimal pressure against your camera compared with standard poppers. Once closed properly, it would take an extreme act of nature to open it again without your choosing. After all, these are engineered to the tolerances of Porsche. They are blackened, NOT painted and will brass with age, not chip like paint.

To attach the fastener is very easy, simply push on the area surrounding the button, not on the button itself, onto the male post. Thus allowing the mechanism to rise and fall into the locked position. To release, pull on the button head and your away. 

The safety strap has four holes punched into it, not for any aesthetic reasons, but because saddle leather is very stiff. It will soften with age but for this particular area I wanted it to go softer, faster without losing any edge thickness or strength. 

HOW ITS MADE

HAND SEWN, NO SEWING MACHINES:
Instead of using sewing machines, every single stitch is sewn then knotted by hand. This ensures a very strong bond. Unlike a sewing machine, our hand technique means that even if a stitch were to come undone after years of wear, the stitch next to it will hold. This is an extremely time consuming process, but we would prefer to make far fewer cases that will stand the test of time. We use only an awl to make the hole, then push the needle through the layers of thick saddle leather. Makes for very strong hands!

ONLY HAND CAST SOLID BRASS (THEN PROFESSIONALLY BLACKENED) FITTINGS ARE USED:
All our fixtures are solid brass and hand cast here in the UK. They are then treated by a specialist engineering company to create as close a Leica black as possible. No paint is used whatsoever and the finish will brass just like your well used Leica.

UHL COLLECTION ORDERING OPTIONS

1. THE UHL-1 CASE 

(UHL-1) The UHL-1 is our classic holster case. It is supported by a 1 inch shoulder/waist strap via trigger clips to d-rings attached to the Uhl case. This case is more suited to someone who will wear the case over the shoulder most of the time. The UHL-1 can also easily be worn around the waist by doubling back the excess strap through the loops.

UHL 1 and UHL 2 can be made in the following versions (prices are the same for all versions):

Version 1: The Classic - No Leica Grip, No Thumbs Up
Version 2: Leica Grip Case, No Thumbs Up
Version 3: Leica Grip Case + Flat Thumbs Up (EP-1)
Version 4: Leica Grip Case + Raised Thumbs UP (CSEP-1)
Version 5: No Leica Grip + Flat Thumbs Up (EP-1)
Version 6: No Leica Grip + Raised Thumbs Up (CSEP-1) 

Note: All grip cases come with a narrower cross safety strap on the case. Prices are the same for all versiions.

2. THE UHL-2 CASE

(UHL-2) This case version is exactly the same as the UHL-1, but is more suited to someone who will usually wear it around their waist. This case version attaches to a 1.4 inch waist belt. The UHL-2 can also be worn over the shoulder for those who might prefer a higher fit.

4. NOCTILUX LENS CASE - 
The Noctilux case is designed to hold Leica's most recent f.95 Noctilux lens, or all of the other larger and most recent Leica lenses that do not fit in our standard lens case. 
The Noctilux lens case is a special order item only, and not listed in our catalog. It is priced at £275 + shipping. Please get in touch for more info.

5. Titanium Wrist Lanyard -

A beautiful and robust wrist lanyard that is entirely hand-sewn. It features a braided area with fine leather lacing allowing for an excellent grip of your camera. Secured by titanium hardware

6. Cushioned Shoulder Pad -

Our cushioned shoulder pad is entirely hand-sewn using a dense foam lining used in equestrian saddles. These are available only for our UHL-1 systems.

MY MESSAGE TO CLIENTS

As you can see, these are very special products and not a single element has been left to chance. We want to build a name for quality not quantity. We will one day be adding new products, but for the foreseeable future our only mission will be to create the finest cases available for Leica M series cameras. 

All items receive an incredibly time consuming level of differing processes to create, but I believe these elegantly built cameras and the customers who use them deserve nothing less. Once you have your completed items, they are a joy to use, light weight and get better with age.  And with a minimal amount of care, they could easily last a lifetime. Our products are made to the same tolerances that a horse bridal or saddle would be subjected, using the same materials and techniques. Why make them so strong you might ask? My answer is that there is nothing better than using a quality tool for the job that you can trust and know that will last. As many of you are Leica aficionados, you surely know what I'm talking about here. But if a problem does arise as they sometimes can, we offer a 5 year warranty for your peace of mind. 

Every item will be made for you, as your initials will make up the serial number. We do not make stock of our products or sell in stores. The Uhl collection will be made in very limited quantities on a first come, first served basis. When you place your order, we will contact you after with your unique order number. Once we confirm all details with you, the process of making then begins.
